DRINK MORE WATER AND LOSE MORE WEIGHT !

We finally found some credible science to support what we’ve believed for a long time…proper water consumption not only improves health, it is a powerful weight loss strategy too.

A 12 week study managed by Dr Brenda Davy of Virginia Tech confirms to our satisfaction that drinking a pint of water before each of the three main meals leads to substantially improved weight loss. Her calorie controlled study,1,200 calories for women and 1,500 for men, introduced water consumption as the only variable. One half of the group were given no water consumption instructions and the other half drank a pint of water before all 3 meals. After 12 weeks the water group lost about 15.5 pounds and the non water group lost 11 pounds. What’s even more impressive is that at the end of a year the members of the water group, that continued to drink a pint of water before meals, lost an additional 2 pounds even after they returned to their normal eating patterns. The non water group gained all the weight they lost during the 12 week study back by the end of the year.

A 17 pound weight loss in a year is not a huge number, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose, but 6 of those pounds were achieved by simply drinking more water and that turns into a very big number over time. Proper Hydration is important for lots of reasons. Water in, toxins out…you’ll feel better and look better flushing that “stuff” out of your body everyday too. Lots of health benefits to drinking more water and now that you know it will help you lose weight it’s time to “drink up” and get started. Tom LeDuc

Give Your Eyes Some Exercise to Naturally Improve Your Eyesight

We’ve all heard it said that maintaining an active lifestyle is a beneficial practice in order to maintain good health. This should come as no surprise. Our muscles, which enable our every movement, need to be frequently used to stay functional. You’ve heard of atrophy; it’s what happens to unused muscles over time. As muscles atrophy they become weak, unstable, decrease in mass and respond poorly to nerve impulses.

Although many of us carefully keep our bodies in good shape, there are some very special muscles that are frequently neglected. Where can these special muscles be found?

In our eyes.

That’s right, your eyes have muscles too, and just like every other muscle in your body, they require exercise. This may come as a surprise to you, because it’s easy to think to yourself, “I use my eyes all the time. Aren’t they getting all the exercise they need?”. Perhaps they are, but before you jump to a conclusion, take a minute to think about your day. (more…)

Mayo Clinic – Aspirin not a joke!

Dr. Virend Somers, a cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon, Somers said. Having one during the night, when the heart
should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.

1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night. The reason: aspirin has a 24-hour “half-life” therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the aspirin would be strongest in your system.

2. FYI, aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar). Please read on.

Something that we can do to help ourselves – nice to know.
Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets. (more…)

આસો માસે કાકડી; કારેલાં કારતક મહી;

માગશર માસે આંબળા; પોષ માસે ધાણા
મહા મહીને મસાલા; ફાગણ મહીને ચણા;

છોડ,ચૈત્ર મહીને ગોળ;વૈશાખ મહીને તેલ
જેઠ મહીને કંદમૂળ, આદું તું જરૂરથી મેલ;

20:20:20 Eye care

During a recent visit to an optician, one of my friends was told of an exercise for the eyes by a specialist doctor that he termed as 20-20-20.’ It is apt for all of us, who spend long hours at our desks, looking at the computer screen.
I Thought I’d share it with you. 20-20-20

Step I :-
After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.

Step II :-
Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.

Step III :-
Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body.
Circulate among your friends if you care for them and their eyes. They say that your eyes r mirror of your soul, so do take care of them, they are priceless…..
Otherwise our eye would be like this…..

Easy Eye Care Tips – Eye Strain, Vision Care, Dark Circles [Easy Instructions]

 Take Proper Eye Care

EYES. Beautiful eye vision is a worthy gift, but we are dampening it due to lack of care. Here I try to cover every simple thing that you need to know in order to take proper eye care.

EYES & VISION CARE. Follow the 20-20-20 formula. Look away from the point of concentration (PC, TV, book..) every 20 minutes towards a distant object, then blink 20 times (fully close & open your eyes), and walk at least 20 steps every 20 minutes. This way you don’t strain your eyes, keep them moisturized and balance blood flow in your body.

DID YOU KNOW? We normally blink at an average of 12 times per minute, but blink just about 5 times when in front of a PC or a TV.

RELAXING YOUR EYES. Do palming (rubbing heat out of your palms, and closing them on the eye), and splash cold water on your face and eyes when time permits.

EYE TIPS. Too much light or brightness can harm your eyes, better stay away (anti-glare screen, or eye glasses help). Positioning yourself properly in front of a computer, TV or at work can help a great deal – distance yourself at an arms length from the computer screen, make yourself comfortable. Reduce brightness of your computer screen.

DARK CIRCLES. Make juice out of 3 pieces of cucumber, dip cotton pads in it for about 2 minutes, place them gently on the eye at bedtime. Taking (2-3) in almonds everyday also helps.

HEALTHY, NOURISHING FOOD. Intake food containing Vitamins A, C, and E (vital for the eye) daily – incl. egg, dairy products (milk, butter, cheese – in  adequate quantities), green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes and lots of fresh fruits.

GOOD SLEEP. A good night’s rest is what your body needs after a hard working day. Please do remember that tiring your body, and not giving it enough rest also harms your eyes… it’s all interrelated.

EYE EXERCISES. You should have heard this a couple of times already. Your eyes need exercise as much as your body does. Here are some hand-picked helpful videos – [video-1, video-2, video-3, video-4

As simple as that…
